Upcoming Classes and Workshops Writing Retreat in Inverness A Breath of Fresh Air Join us for a weekend of creativity, designed to breathe fresh air into your writing. Laura’s innovative writing techniques will offer you new ways to access and shape your material into engaging stories, memoir, fiction and poetry. In the tranquil and beautiful setting of Osprey Peak B&B, just minutes from Point Reyes, you will find spaciousness and inspiration. For beginning and experienced writers. Limited to eight participants. Two fantastic rooms available (Fri and Sat) at Osprey Peak. Other nearby accommodations available as well. Weekly Classes Advanced Class This class is for experienced writers, with a focus on first person writing (essays, stories and memoir) and fiction. The class includes instruction, writing exercises and an opportunity to read your writing for feedback. There is more emphasis on writing for publication than in the Intermediate Class. Class size is limited, so register early to hold your place.
Intermediate Class Class format is similar to the Tuesday class, with instruction, writing, exercises and an opportunity to read your writing for feedback. The focus is on how to craft personal essays, memoir and fiction, rather than writing for publication. Class size is limited. Early registration recommended.
Introduction to Personal Essay and Memoir Using your life as the source for personal essays, stories and memoir, you'll learn techniques to access and shape your material, approach it from new angles, and find the pearls. Focusing both on the creative process and essay structure, this class is ideal for beginning and more experienced writers who want to learn new creative writing techniques and review the elements of personal essays. The workshop includes instruction, in-class writing, short assignments between classes, and feedback.
Making Money From Your Memories Discover the secrets of transforming memories and life experiences into personal essays and stories that sell. This practical “How to” workshop will give you the tools you need to get your writing published in magazines, newspapers, and other media. You’ll learn what editors are looking for (and paying for!) and how to craft your stories. For writers at all levels, this class includes instruction, in-class writing, feedback, and submission ideas.
One- and Two- Day Workshops Remembering What You Forgot Some stories from our lives stay with us forever. Others slip through the cracks of our memories. In this workshop, you’ll learn techniques to recall meaningful stories and fill in the details you may have forgotten. The very act of writing, prompted by specific creative writing exercises, can help us remember. This workshop is for writers at all levels.
Mapping Out Your Memoir Find the "flow" in your story. This workshop will include exercises to open up your creativity, uncover the best material for your project, and see the storylines. There'll be writing, feedback, a little artistic expression and more. This workshop is open to all levels.
Writing as a Spiritual Practice Writing can bring us into the present moment, help us give voice to what is most important in our lives, and give language to what is otherwise unnoticed. In this one-day writing retreat, we’ll share techniques that will help us tap into our stories, memories, and imagination. Our schedule includes teaching, creative writing exercises and feedback, and a short meditation to awaken awareness, spark creativity, and make our writing come alive. For writers of all levels.
